Biblical evidence as why Catholic Church must always be the only true church.
Most Christians in this time are in the greatest confusion about the TRUE interpretation of Bible often due due to iintellectual pride they end up establishing their own sect with theirs authority and get to say others are wrong. This debate goes back and forth on whether this or that doctrine is true, and how much evidence is there for this or that doctrine. However, we also need to step back and look at the “bigger picture.” We need to ask the larger philosophical and theological question, “Is there objective truth?” And then related to that issue is another question, which is probably the most important question for all of us, “Can this objective truth be known by human beings with certainty?” Scripture says, “God our Savior…wants ALL MEN [and WOMEN] to be saved and to COME TO A KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH” (1 Timothy 2:3-4).
Catholics and Evangelical Protestants agree on the answer to the first question. We both affirm there is objective TRUTH. We differ as to the sources of objective truth, whether it is both Scripture and the (Catholic) Church (cf. 1 Timothy 3:15-16), or the Scriptures alone. Catholics and Protestants can both agree that the 66 books of the Protestant “canon” are infallibly true. That is a somewhat narrow margin of agreement, but at least we share that much in common. Because MOST Catholic doctrines (though not all) are rooted in Sacred Scripture, either explicitly or implicitly, a lot of fruitful dialogue and even agreement can occur between Catholics and Protestants, if we will only “speak the TRUTH in LOVE” to each other (cf. Ephesians 4:12-16).
However, while we can agree that there is truth, and that the Bible is true, Protestantism cannot provide a positive answer to the second question, “Can a person KNOW the TRUTH with certainty?” Jesus said, “You will KNOW the TRUTH, and the TRUTH will SET YOU FREE” (John 8:32). Protestants cannot affirm a “Yes” answer to this question with any degree of certainty. Why is that? Because of the highly subjective, individualistic and conflicting INTERPRETATIONS of the Protestant Bible among over 45,000 different Protestant denominations, none of which agree 100% with the historic Catholic Faith either.
I do not deny that many of these Protestant denominations share a lot of Biblical teachings in common. But there is no objective way to determine with any degree of certainty even WHICH of these teachings are “essential” and which are “non-essential” in order for Protestants to remain UNITED on the “essentials.” The problem is, the Protestant denominations do not have a central teaching authority (what we call the “magisterium” in the Catholic Church). Therefore, one person’s opinion of what the Bible says and means has EQUAL authority to everyone else’s opinions of what the Bible says and means.
Since the Scriptures are not always perspicuous (clear), it is possible for Protestants to have multiple interpretations of the SAME Biblical verses and passages. And there is simply NO INFALLIBLE WAY to determine which interpretations are RIGHT or WRONG. Therefore, there is no absolute certainty of theological truth.
What good is an infallible Bible without any infallible interpretations? We need an infallible Church which produced the infallible Bible and provides logically coherent infallible interpretations. And that is exactly what the Catholic Church alone provides. No Protestant denomination can do the same—produce an infallible Bible with infallible interpretations of the Bible. Indeed, no Protestant denomination, to my knowledge, even claims to do BOTH of those two things.
Common sense should tell us that a Biblical “free for all” as the only source of Divine truth is simply a recipe for disaster! As stated in the book of Judges, “Each man did what was right in his own eyes!” Protestantism consists of over 45,000 different and conflicting denominations with an ever-increasing diversity of Biblical interpretations, whereas the Catholic Church has remained ONE Body with the SAME and CONSISTENT core set of infallible doctrines for almost 2,000 years now!
“The proof of the pudding is in the eating,” as the old saying goes. And as Scripture declares, “God is not the Author of confusion.”
Jesus said, “If you hold to My TEACHING, you are REALLY My DISCIPLES. Then, you will KNOW the TRUTH, and the TRUTH will SET YOU FREE” (John 8:31-32
Catholics stand firmly in truth.
Pray for our priests ,pray for conversion of sinners, pray one another and pray for the Church.
God bless you.
